ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

The goal of this program is to provide English language instruction to adult learners who are able to read and write in at least one language other than English. It also helps prepare adult learners to use English for entering career and technical (CTE) or another postsecondary education, employment, and participation in the civic life in the United States.

Students are placed in a specific ESOL level according to their CASAS test scores.

Low Beginning 181 – 190

High Intermediate 211 – 220
Advanced 221 – 235
Exit Advanced 236 +

Adult Literacy

Students who score below 153 on the CASAS examination will be placed in the Adult Literacy course. The goal of this course is to provide English language and literacy instruction for English language learner adults whose first language is other than English and who are non-literate or semi-literate in their home language, in order to increase their ability to communicate in English.


College and Career Readiness

Students who score above 235 will be placed in the College and Career Readiness Course.  The purpose of this course is to improve the advanced ESOL students’ ability to communicate in English, and allow them to acquire secondary level English language skills.
